We are building an accessible toilet so that The Old Library can be comfortably used by everybody.
The Old Library is a community led project, that brings people and families together. Together we have created something amazing, unique and to be proud of: a hire space for workshops & activities, a community kitchen/cafe with seating (and tasty coffee!), crafts, quiz nights, music, book clubs, a repair cafe, and more!
Since we opened in 2016 we have been struggling to cope with our single, cramped toilet, so we are now building a small extension to include a second, wheelchair accessible toilet, as well as an additional fire escape and a new flat roof to replace the one that is leaking. Take a look at the plans below:
We have such a diverse range of groups and community members that enjoy the Old Library. Every Friday morning, the Umbrella choir (a group of differently abled people) bring such joy and happiness to all the cafe goers, lead by the fantastic Kate, singing all the best loved hits from decades past. Its an experience that bring such light that you can’t help but get up boogey and sing along. The members of the choir need a bathroom that fits their needs, and currently the very small bathroom simply doesn’t accommodate many of them. Please donate so everyone in our community is catered for, especially those that bring such joy. (See the choir below).
Work is due to start in mid July 2023. We will provide updates on the build here as it happens. We have enough money to be able to complete the shell which should be done by early Autumn 2023. At that point we will be able to reopen the building but we will still need to fundraise to get the work finished and the new facilities open to the public.
