Love literature and want to read more about the climate? This book club gives you the perfect opportunity to discuss a variety of contemporary novels that engage with the changing climate. Engaging with world literature, from science fiction to realism, we will discuss the challenges of climate change and questions of hope, adaptability, and resilience as they emerge across these novels:

October: Pitchaya Sudbanthad’s Bangkok Wakes to Rain

November: Imbolo Mbue’s How Beautiful We Were

December: Olga Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead

January: Richard Power’s The Overstory

February: Rumaan Alam’s Leave the World Behind

March: Claire Vay Watkins’s Gold Fame Citrus

The book club is developed and led by Dr Sarah Robertson (UWE English Literature), whose current research is on climate change and literature.

The book club is free of charge and you can join by dropping-in with no prior booking (though it would be great if you could let us know at hello@theoldlibrary.org.uk if you are intending to join, just so we have a rough idea of numbers). It will take place on the first Tuesday of every month from October to March, from 7:00-9:00pm.
