According to Bristol City Council, air pollution causes at least 300 premature deaths in Bristol. Traffic is not the only cause, but it is the main cause of the problem. The health impact of air pollution affects everybody, but is greater in working class areas. Eastville is especially exposed because of the M32 and retail centre that have carved through the area since the 1970s.

Levels of pollution at both ends of Muller Road already exceed permitted levels and new developments on Muller Road and in Lockleaze, will make the problem worse unless action is taken now. Already, traffic idles most of the day at Eastville roundabout, and alongside Fairfield School’s sports pitches.

The Council is preparing a new Clean Air Plan, but will it be enough to make the air we all breathe cleaner ? Come to this open public meeting called by Lockleaze Labour to hear what we can expect from the Government and the Council, and how we can get a Clean Air Plan that will work.
